The Urban Room
Info
< 2 of 6 >
This project explores the creation of an outdoor room created through erosion of an implied volume as described by the L-shaped property boundary. This hardscape garden, which formally interlocks with the enclosed building, is conceived as another “room” of the building, and part of the building’s slowly-unfolding spatial sequence, which is revealed space by space. Visitors enter the project through this outdoor urban sanctuary which mediates between the street and enclosed building. In this space, public/private and outdoor/indoor are blurred and the question of whether the space belongs to the building or the city is deliberately ambiguous.
